If you already have an Aadhaar number or are eligible to obtain one and hold a PAN card, you must inform the income tax department and link your PAN to your Aadhaar. Failure to do so will result in your PAN becoming ‘inoperative’. So, it is essential to link your PAN with your Aadhaar to avoid any inconvenience.

The deadline to link PAN and Aadhaar card is March 31, 2023. After the deadline, any PAN card that is not linked with Aadhaar will become inoperative. The Indian government has extended the deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking from 31st March 2022 to 31st March 2023. However, the deadline to link PAN and Aadhaar without any fine was March 31, 2022. As per the current regulations, a fine of Rs. 1,000 must be paid for linking PAN and Aadhaar after the deadline.
