In the first T20I against Bangladesh in Chattogram, Ireland’s interim skipper, Paul Stirling, chose to field first, citing their limited familiarity with the conditions. Bangladesh’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan, also admitted that he would have made the same decision due to their uncertainty about the ideal score on that particular pitch. In contrast, Ireland had to make several alterations to their team since their previous T20I match against Zimbabwe in January. Paul Stirling was appointed as both captain and opener in place of the rested Andrew Balbirnie. Additionally, Lorcan Tucker, Gareth Delany, Craig Young, and Graham Hume were brought into the playing eleven, replacing Stephen Doheny, Neil Rock, and Barry McCarthy.
The two teams last encountered each other in a T20I during the 2016 T20 World Cup, but unfortunately, the game was abandoned due to rain.
