In Group A, Qatar, Ecuador, African Champions Senegal, and the Netherlands are the first countries from the Middle East to host the World Cup. Originally, Qatar and Ecuador were scheduled to play on November 21, but the match was shifted to ensure the hosts play the first game of the tournament, as has been the custom since 2006.
