KKR’s statement suggests that the possibility of Iyer making an early return to play appears unlikely at present.KKR IPL 2023 TeamSquad, ipl 2023 schedule, kkr team 2023 captain, kkr match

“Due to a back injury, Shreyas Iyer will be absent from the team, and Nitish Rana will lead in his place. Although we are optimistic that Shreyas will recuperate and join us at some point during the 2023 IPL season, we are grateful that Nitish, who has previously captained his state team in white-ball cricket and has been a part of KKR since 2018, has the required IPL experience and leadership skills to excel in this role,” stated KKR.

The statement also expressed confidence in Nitish Rana’s ability to lead the team with the guidance of head coach Chandrakant Pandit and the support staff, while experienced leaders within the squad would provide additional on-field assistance as needed. KKR extended their best wishes to Rana as he takes on this new role, and they wished a swift and complete recovery for Shreyas Iyer.

Regarding his appointment as KKR’s new captain, Nitish Rana commented, “Having been a part of KKR since 2018, it is a privilege to lead this team. This captaincy role reinforces my commitment to perform at the highest level.”

Rana also expressed his excitement at the prospect of demonstrating his leadership abilities, stating that he would utilize his experience to motivate both himself and his teammates to perform at their best. He further extended his wishes for Shreyas Iyer’s quick recovery and eagerly anticipated the new challenge ahead of him.

Although Nitish Rana has led Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the outcomes have not been very successful for him. It is believed that he will be tasked with executing the game plan devised by coach Pandit, with team manager Venky Mysore and former Mumbai Ranji player Abhishek Nayar also involved in decision-making.

It is worth noting that Nitish Rana was excluded from Delhi’s Ranji Trophy team this season due to his subpar performance and lack of proficiency in red-ball cricket.

Nitish Rana has led Delhi in 12 T20 matches during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, registering eight victories and four losses under his captaincy.

KKR acquired Nitish Rana, a 29-year-old middle-order batsman, prior to the 2018 season and have retained him in the squad ever since.

In his tenure with KKR, Nitish Rana has featured in 74 matches and accumulated 1744 runs, maintaining a strike rate of 135.61.

KKR will commence their IPL 2023 season against Punjab Kings at Mohali on April 1st.
